First, a correction, the last day of classes is not the 6th, it's the 5th. Now, on with the blog!
Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow! It's not our first dumping, we got that a while ago, but so far it's the biggest! We are under a winter storm warning. I think we're up to something like 22 cm of snow so far and we're expecting 5 to 10 more. So of course, I'm sitting in the school computer lab writing this instead of still be curled up in bed. (Did ya catch the sarcasm?) Question: How do you know when you are living in a northern town? Answer: When they pull the school buses off the road, but everything remains open. That's what I was thinking as I slowly made my way in today. I guess I'm not really complaining though, I mean, it makes for a horrible drive in, and it seems kind of pointless when I only have two classes today, but I'm glad we're getting snow this winter. Apparently we are supposed to be having a very cold, but very snowy winter. Like, we're supposed to get snow like we haven't seen for 15 years or something like that. I say: "Bring it on!!" Of course, I'm not the one who has to clear the driveway, so I can talk. I hate it when we have no snow, it makes the season way too depressing, and I'm the kind of person who needs snow at Christmas. I would never be able to do Christmas in a warm climate, my brain would go into meltdown or something. Another thought comes to mind as I sit here typing this: I really need to put insoles in these boots, my feet are freezing!
It's hard to believe that there are only a few more days to go until the end of the term. It feels like I just started! I'm feeling fairly confident going into my exams (which is good, seeing as I have one on Friday), but I guess I'll just have to wait until I'm done writing and the final marks are in. Oh, the Engineering Christmas party was this weekend. It was fun, and quite entertaining. Picture drunk people trying to do karaoke. I'm not sure how late it went on (I know it didn't go past 2 am, at least not at that venue, because it was at a local restaurant), I left shortly after 11. There were a couple of people who left before me, but there was still quite the crowd there when I left.
Well, I guess I've done enough rambling for now. Still need to come up with a closing...

Ugh... only one more midterm to go and I'm finally done. A couple of my courses had two midterms, in case you were wondering. Sounds annoying, but it's kinda good. It means that you have less material to cover in each test.
I'm going to a murder mystery party tonight. I've never been to one before, it should be fun. I play the casino manager.
It's so hard to believe that it's almost the end of term! Last day of classes is December 6, then finals start. It's already the middle of November! It's so crazy!
Most of my midterms have gone pretty well so far. I failed my physics, but just. Oh, if only he would curve it, then I would pass!
Anyway, I can't really think of anything else to tell you at the moment, so I think I'm going to leave it here.
Hmm, I'm going to have to come up with some sort of catch phrase to sign off with. You know, like Walter Cronkite and his "And that's the way it was."

I completely forgot to tell you about my weekend! I went to see Stuart McLean on Sunday night. He's the guy who does 'Vinyl Cafe' on CBC radio on Sunday afternoons. It was so funny, I loved it! He puts on a really good show, it was about 2.5 hours long. After the show I went and bought his book and then stood in line to have him sign it. I'm so glad I went. I took my mom with me, I bought her a ticket as part of her Christmas present.
Now I just have to count down the days until I go see Michael Bublé!

Well, it's midterm time. Oh happy day. (extreme sarcasm!) I have so much stuff to do this week it's almost unreal. I had three assignments and a midterm just today! I have another assignment due Thursday, and two assignments and a lab due on Friday! I can't wait for this bloody week to be over, and not just because of the workload. I'm on my study break next week. (insert singing chorus of angels here) I am so looking forward to it, I plan on doing as little as possible.
I'm pretty sure I kicked ass on my midterm today. It was in Applied Mechanics. We had a little over an hour to do three questions. I completely blanked on the first one, (I am so mad at myself for that one), I rocked the second one, it was soooo easy, and I would have rocked the third one, but I forgot to do one little thing (d'oh!).
I don't think there's anything else to tell you at the moment. Oh, except to say that I spent way too much money today. They had a poster sale at the school, I bought five, and the school ring people were here so I bought one for my first degree.
Later.

Well, the first few weeks have been pretty good. I have enough work that it keeps be busy, but not so much that I'm panicing (how the hell do you spell that word?). There are a couple of classes that I'm liking better, but there are a few that I'm not liking as much. It's not so bad though.
Hee...sorry, just thought about what I finished doing.... buying my Michael Buble tickets! YAY!! I am so excited! ok...calm... must remain calm, I am in a public computer lab after all... I had the opportunity to buy my tickets before they went on sale to the general public. Wasn't able to get as good as seats as I would have liked, but at least I have tickets.
I'm also excited to see Stuart McLean in a few weeks. If you don't know who he is, you need to listen to "The Vinyl Cafe" on CBC Radio One. It's fantastic, hilarious, I love it. That reminds me, I have to go pick up my tickets for that one at the box office.
Until next time!

"We are, we are, we are, we are, we are the Engineers.
We can, we can, we can, we can demolish 40 beers.
Drink up, drink up, drink up, drink up and come along with us,
'Cause we don't give a damn about any damn man who don't give a damn about us!"
(Note: sung to the tune of "Battle Hymn of the Republic", starting with 'Glory, glory...')
Ah yes, the famous (or infamous) Engineering song, which I heard sung, from a distance yesterday. Upper level engineering students came to our class in the morning in order to do the frosh thing. I refused to do it, I just walked out of the classroom. "But Pat", you may ask "You are in engineering, so why didn't you do it?"
Why? Let me tell you. It's because they strip you down to your underwear (the girls had t-shirts on) put a cloth around you so it looks like you are wearing a diaper, throw you in a huge thing if PURPLE DYE, and make you elephant walk downtown, to the Mayor's office, and to MCTV (I think it was MCTV someone told me) before bringing you to the Donovan to get drunk. All the while singing the engineering song. Oh, and did I mention the PURPLE DYE, which is ink-based (there were quite a few purple people in class today)? Yah, so not doing that people.
Just in case you were wondering, elephant walking is when you put your left hand between your legs, and stretch your right hand out to grab the left hand of the person in front of you. Actually, I'm not sure if they had to elephant walk the whole time, or if they got taped to a rope.
And just for the record, let me mention the PURPLE DYE one more time. And I was serious when I said people were still purple today. I know people who used 'Tide with Bleach' to scrub with, and they are still purple-ish. Don't even get me started on the hair. Yes, when they dye you, they dye ALL of you, they make sure that you dunk your head. Although, since I didn't go through it, it is worth a good laugh.

You know, in hindsight, I probably shouldn't even attempt to post anything at the moment. I'm kinda bored and tired, and don't really have any work to do to fill in the time between classes, so I'm just gonna end up rambling on about absolutely nothing, but then again, what else is new.
I'm not too sure about this one class that I just had. It's not so much the course, but the prof. He doesn't seem to realize that our tuition pays his salary to teach us. So far, he's let us decide pretty much everything about the course, like if we want assignments, and mid-terms, and stuff like that. I remember thinking.... 'We're first year students, you are the prof. You are supposed to be telling us these things, not the other way around.'
I'm really looking forward to the class that I have this afternoon. It's the design class I was telling you about a couple of days ago, where we got split up into two groups. The extra supplies ended up costing me about $70. It should be interesting.
Well, I think I actually managed to not ramble on meaninglessly, so I think I'll leave now before I start.

Well, after an uneventful weekend full of Chem. and Physics reading and other such stuff, so begins the official first week of classes. One of my textbooks still isn't in the bookstore. Hopefully it will be in shortly, because I kinda need it, it's the lab manual for chemistry. At least I was able to do the online stuff for physics, I was worried that it wouldn't load up properly.
Right now I'm just sitting around, killing time until my ride comes to pick me up. I only have a couple hours of class on Mondays. At least it leaves a lot of time to do work in. That's what I plan on doing shortly, heading up to the library to do some work.
I also need to ask about bus passes. Apparently our student cards can be used for bus passes, but I'm not sure if we have to have any kind of money on them or what. I need to go check that out. That reminds me, I have to check the public library and see if they have a bus schedule...hmm...yeah...
Anyway, I need to go. There's something wonky with this monitor and it's giving me a headache.

Well, I'm back. 'How did class go?', you ask. I'll tell you, I don't know. There are 81 of us signed up in the class, and apparently that's too many for either the classroom or the number of computers available. Either way, it means that the class was split in half with Group A having lectures on Tuesday (that's me) and Group B having lectures on Thursdays. So, basically, what I'm saying is, I didn't have class today.
It's a drafting and design course, so now I get to go spend money on supplies. Wonderful. Luckily enough I already have some of the stuff, so I don't have to buy everything, but pretty close.

Well, it's the second day of classes and things are going pretty good so far. If you don't count the stupid computer glitches that is. I had to go visit the guys down in computer services three times yesterday. That is just wrong. There were a couple of things that I should have been able to log into (web based learning stuff) and they were telling me that I didn't even have an account. I would like to say that everything seems to be working fine now, but I'm afraid that it would jinx things.
A couple of my classes are really big, I mean, really. When I told my mom that she said, "What, big like in 50?" and I told her, "No, big like in 100+". I can't remember the exact numbers that the profs gave, one class was something like 175 and the other might have been closer to 200.
The one class I had so far today wasn't too bad, because it was strictly for people in engineering, where as the other classes were more generic first year courses that had people from several different programs in them.
Well, I'm going to go eat lunch while I can. I'll try to pop back onto a computer before I leave to let you know how the rest of my day went. (And if computer services fixed up my problem.)

I just thought of something to tell all of you wonderful people, who, for some reason, are still reading my very boring blog.
Due to my lack of being able to find a job in my field, I am hoping to go back to school in the fall. I'm just waiting to hear back from my university to see if I got readmitted and into the program that I wanted. I'm shooting for Chemical Engineering.
Wish me luck!!!

Well, it has been a while hasn't it. I'm not sure of the reason why I haven't posted anything in so long, I just haven't. Nothing much is going on right now, I'm actually waiting to hear back from my university to see if I got readmitted or not. Yep, you heard right, I'm hoping to go back to school. (Did I just age myself? Let me check... nope, not really... good)
Hmm... I'm having a hard time thinking of anything to write. I'd better be careful, or my thoughts are going to be really random (more so) and I'm going to end up rambling on about absolutely nothing, although that might not be all that unusual.
Well, I think I'm going to leave it here for now. If I think of anything interesting to post, I'll be sure to come back and let you know.
